FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: scanning device has a housing, a scanning unit which includes an ultrasonic scanning array having a certain scanning direction, a revolving component mounted such that it is able to turn about the housing, having a substance which provides acoustic contact and having a peripheral contact surface for contact with the surface of the inspected object in order to provide ultrasonic communication between the array and the surface of the inspected object such that movement of the housing relative the inspected object with the contact surface in contact with the surface of the inspected object causes the revolving component to revolve. The array is oriented while maintaining the scanning direction perpendicular to the surface, a code position sensor having a displacement sensor designed to measure displacement of the revolving component. The array is mounted such that it can be controlled by turning about the housing to provide the selected fixed position of the housing during operation.
EFFECT: providing more ergonomic and reliable control of quality of metal and composite structures.
