FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a carbon monoxide detector which is based on two sensitive layers. The second sensitive layer is catalytically active and reacts equally to alcohols, particularly ethanol, and carbon monoxide. The first sensitive layer is catalytically inactive and therefore does not react on carbon monoxide and reacts only on ethanol. Concentration of carbon monoxide can be determined by comparing signals from both layers. Both sensitive layers are made as single-type metal oxide layers, wherein for the catalytically active layer, an additional layer is provided, having a catalyst such as palladium. Alternatively, two different layers can be used, one of which is catalytically active and without an additional layer.
EFFECT: reliable detection of carbon monoxide in the presence of alcohols.
