SUBSTANCE: invention relates to soft edible compositions intended for animals. The pet fodder compositions having a soft structure contains proteins, fats, carbohydrates and water. The composition contains fats with a high melting temperature in an amount of 0.5 - 18 wt %, one or several moisturising substances in an amount of approximately 10 - 35 wt % and one or several jellying components in an amount of approximately 5 - 20 wt % as well as water in an amount of approximately 16 - 5 wt %; the composition has water activity index equal to approximately 0.65 - 0.4. The product maximum compressive strength measured with the help of an Instron pull test machine is approximately 0.4-1 pound force. The fodder production method includes the initial components mixing to obtain a mixture, the mixture heating to ensure a soft texture of the composition and impart the desirable shape and size to the later.
EFFECT: invention implementation ensures production of a pet fodder composition with reduced or zero content of added antimicrobial agents and other preservatives combined with preservation of a soft texture, storage life of the composition and ensuring good palatability of the fodder for animals.
