FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing elementary sulphur from highly concentrated hydrogen sulphide-containing gases, which involves oxidation of hydrogen sulphide with oxygen in a fixed bed of a granular catalyst at high temperature and condensation of the obtained sulphur on a heat-exchange surface. The method is characterised by that the process is carried out in a single step, wherein oxidation is carried out in a catalyst bed placed between heat-exchange surfaces lying at an angle of 45-90 degrees to the horizontal, and the direction of feeding the gas is at an angle of 0-90 degrees to the horizontal, wherein the ratio of the thickness of the bed to the size of granules of the catalyst is 5-10:1.
EFFECT: wider range of application of the method, intense process, simple technology, low material consumption and high energy efficiency.
