SUBSTANCE: user equipment (which is situated in a serving cell and has an active set of cells) sends a request to a network controller to add at least one additional cell to the active set. The user equipment then receives the requested active set update from the network controller. The received active set update contains the at least one additional cell to be added to the active set and a list of cells for which a modified cell change procedure shall be used for handover. A neighbouring cell which is stronger than the current serving cell is detected. This detected cell is compared with the received list of modified cell change procedure cells, and the modified cell change procedure is applied if the stronger neighbouring cell is found matching a cell on the list.
EFFECT: using cell change improvements with minimal effect on system capacity.
