SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to use of a swellable polymer for sealing purposes. Described is use of a swellable polymer for sealing, said polymer being obtained by polymerising a composition which contains at least one polyalkylene glycol di(meth)acrylate which contains ethylene glycol and/or propylene glycol structural units with weight-average molecular weight higher than 5000 g/mol, at least one tertiary amine of formula CH₂ = CR' - CO - X - (R" - O)_n - R" - NR₂ (I), where R denotes an alkyl residue with 1-4 carbon atoms, R' denotes a methyl group, X denotes an oxygen atom or a -NH- group, R" denotes an alkylene group with 2-4 carbon atoms, n equals 0 and acrylic acid or methacrylic acid. Also described is a method of sealing leaky areas, where a leaky area is coated with a composition containing at least one polyalkylene glycol di(meth)acrylate which contains ethylene glycol and/or propylene glycol structural units with weight-average molecular weight higher than 5000 g/mol, at least one tertiary amine of formula (I), where R denotes an alkyl residue with 1-4 carbon atoms, R' denotes a methyl group, X denotes an oxygen atom or a -NH- group, R" denotes an alkylene group with 2-4 carbon atoms, n equals 0 and acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and said composition is polymerised.

EFFECT: improved sealing of leaky areas by using material better capable of swelling and having improved mechanical properties.
