FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to complete oxidation of polytetrafluoroethylene and specifically to a method of recycling polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) wastes. The method of recycling PTFE wastes involves grinding PTFE wastes to particle size smaller than 0.2 mm, mixing with an oxidising agent and heating. The oxidising agent used is lead oxide in weight ratio of 1:(0.8-1.0). The mixture is pressed into briquettes at pressure of 500-600 kg/cm2 and heated to 400°C.
EFFECT: simple and cheap process of recycling PTFE and obtaining lead fluoride powder which can be used as a solid lubricant in powder metallurgy.
