FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of putting a coulometric cell into operation, said cell being used in coulometric hygrometers and consisting of two parts: an operating part and a control part lying in an internal channel of a glass housing of three platinum or rhodium helical wire electrodes, one of which is a common electrode. According to the invention, dc voltage of a different value is applied on electrodes of the coulometric cell, wherein a lower voltage is applied on the control electrode and a higher voltage is applied on the working electrode than the common electrode, wherein the analysed gas is fed from the side of the control part.

EFFECT: invention increases the upper limit of measurements of the volume ratio of a coulometric hygrometer and prolongs the service life thereof.
