FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of producing float glass involves melting glass, pouring the glass mass into a float bath and forming a glass strip on the surface of molten metal. The glass strip is transported from the float bath by receiving rollers of a slag chamber and rollers of an annealing furnace. During transportation, the glass strip is raised over the receiving rollers of the slag chamber and held in a raised position during transportation in the area of the slag chamber by reducing atmospheric pressure over the glass strip relative pressure acting on the glass strip from below. Such transfer of the glass strip from the molten metal in the float bath to rollers of the annealing furnace without contact thereof with rollers of the slag chamber improves quality of the bottom surface of the glass owing to considerably fewer defects such as roller prints, surface cracks and small pop-outs.
EFFECT: high quality of the bottom surface of float glass, eliminating microscopic damages of the bottom surface of the glass from contact of the glass strip with receiving rollers of the slag chamber when moving the glass strip from the float bath to the annealing furnace.
