FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: transmissive display comprises a backlight and a valve for modulating light from the backlight in order to create an image. The transmissive display comprises: a connector for connection with a connected viewer behaviour detection means and a power optimiser, having an input connection to the viewer behaviour detection means for receiving from it a behaviour measuring signal, and having an output for sending an optimal drive value to the backlight depending on the behaviour measuring signal. The power optimiser is arranged by means of executable software and/or hardware circuitry to analyse input image content to determine a visibility measure, modelling how visible to the viewer the created image is. The power optimiser is also configured to calculate a function giving as a result the optimal drive value, dependent on power consumed by said display.

EFFECT: low power consumption.
