FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy, particularly, to production of diamond tools. It can be used for cutting, honing, grinding, drilling and other abrasive applications. Composite insert with polycrystalline diamonds (PCD) comprises PCD structure bonded with cemented carbide substrate. At least one peripheral area of said substrate includes cemented carbide with mean free path (MFP) making at least 0.1 mcm and not over 0.7 mcm and elasticity limit of at least 1.9 GPa. To make composite insert, mass of diamond particles are bonded to introduce solvent/catalyst therein and to sinter said mass in contact with substrate at diamond thermal stability temperature and pressure.
EFFECT: higher erosion and failure resistance.
