FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: autostereoscopic display device includes a display image forming unit which provides at least two optical functions, specifically a display image formation function and a brightness non-uniformity reduction function. The display image formation function is provided by an array of parallel lenticular lenses arranged on the entire display image forming unit and having a first period. The brightness non-uniformity reduction function scatters output display pixel signals such that brightness non-uniformities caused by display of a non-transparent array are reduced. The brightness non-uniformity reduction function sets a second period on the entire display image forming unit which is less than the first period, and further sets an effective scattering angle in a plane perpendicular to axes of display image forming elements, basically equal to or less than the angle between neighbouring display images projected by the display image formation function. The brightness non-uniformity reduction function is provided by an array of lenses or a diffuser. In the case with an array of lenses, said lenses can be integrated with lenticular lenses to provide a display image formation function in form of lenses having a polygonal cross-section.
