FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to intensely coloured and/or optically variable pigments, methods for production thereof and use thereof. The pigment contains transparent or semitransparent flake-like electrically conductive core and at least one chromophoric dielectric layer surrounding the core. The electrically conductive core has a transparent or semitransparent flake-like substrate and a single-layer or multi-layer coating which covers the substrate of the core or is located on both sides of the substrate and at least the outer layer of which is an electrically conductive layer containing one or more doped metal oxides and having thickness of at least 15 nm. The transparent or semitransparent flake-like substrate is selected from a group consisting of synthetic or natural mica, other sheet silicates, glass flakes, flake-like SiO2 and flake-like Al2O3. The method of making the pigments involves: a) optionally coating the transparent or semitransparent flake-like substrate, selected from a group consisting of synthetic or natural mica, other sheet silicates, glass flakes, flake-like SiO2 and flake-like Al2O3 with one or more dielectric layers, b) coating the substrate on both or all sides with an electrically conductive layer, having thickness of at least 15 nm and containing one or more doped metal oxides, to obtain an electrically conductive core, c) coating the electrically conductive core on all sides with at least one chromophoric dielectric layer. The obtained pigment is used in paint, coatings, lacquer etc.
EFFECT: obtaining pigments, having good visible and distinguishable, attention-drawing optical properties, which give an intense signal without short-circuiting.
