FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry. The method of producing a mono-alkylaromatic compound is carried out by contacting material containing an alkylatable aromatic compound and an alkylating agent in catalysed alkylation reaction conditions. The catalyst is an EMM-12 molecular sieve. The used molecular sieve is characterised by an X-ray diffraction pattern in freshly prepared and calcined forms. The X-ray diffraction pattern includes peaks which correspond to diffraction peaks in the range from 14.17 to 12.57 Ǻ, diffraction peaks in the range from 12.1 to 12.56 Ǻ, non-discrete scattering from about 8.85 to 11.05 Ǻ, or exhibit a valley in between the peaks corresponding to diffraction peaks in the range from 10.14 to 12.0 Ǻ and diffraction peaks in the range from 8.66 to 10.13 Ǻ, with measured intensity corrected for background at the lowest point of said valley being not less than 50% of the intensity corresponding to a similar interplanar spacing on the line connecting peaks in the range of 10.14 to 12.0 Ǻ and in the range from 8.66 to 10.13 Ǻ.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain an additional amount of the desired product by reducing formation of by-products.
