FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical industry. Liquid ammonia is mixed with a strongly basic ion exchanger and passed through it at temperature ranging from minus 20°C to 60°C and pressure ranging from 1 to 25 bar for 1-36 hours. Content of ammonia in the liquid ammonia is more than 98 wt % and content of halide ions, e.g., chloride ions, ranges from 10 ppm to 200 ppm. The flow rate of the liquid ammonia ranges from 10 to 120 (m3 ammonia)/(m3 ion exchanger)/h. The ion exchanger is laid in fixed layers. The basic frame of the strongly basic ion exchanger is a covalently cross-linked polymer matrix formed from cross-linked polystyrene or polyacrylate, and the functional groups of the ion exchanger are quaternary ammonium groups. Purified ammonia is used in the method to produce amines.
EFFECT: reducing the amount of undesirable by-products, reducing corrosion of the equipment.
