FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ytterbium chemical compounds which are luminescent in the near-infrared region, particularly ytterbium compounds having at least one O,N-chelate heterocyclic ligand. The ligand is an acid residue of an aromatic alcohol, having 2-4 condensed six-member carbon rings and, in the ortho-position, an azole substitute with a heteroatom X (where X is sulphur, oxygen or NH). The compounds have a general formula I  , where 1 denotes an acid residue of an aromatic alcohol, having 2-4 condensed six-member carbon rings; 2 denotes an azole substitute with a heteroatom, which is a 1-benzothiazole, 1-benzoimidazole or 1-benzoxazole moiety. An organic light-emitting diode is also disclosed.
