FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to medicine. An optical fibre probe for intravascular measurements, e.g. oxygen saturation measurements, comprises an optical fibre core only consisting of two fibres. A single-fibre core may be also possible. A reinforcing fibre increases a stiffness, a torsional resistance and an overall strength of the probe. The reinforcing fibre is substantially parallel with the core fibres. The reinforcing fibre may be also helically wound around the core thereby improving the mechanical properties more. An outer surface of a sheath has an antithrombogenic coating to reduce a risk of superficial clotting. The reinforcing fibre may be made of carbon, metal, ceramics or aramide.
EFFECT: enhancing the mechanical characteristics.
