FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an imaging device which enables to obtain dental X-ray images. The device includes a matrix sensor with an array of photodiodes for obtaining an image and one detector photodiode. A control unit for controlling the sensor periodically reads the detector photodiode and causes the sensor to switch to one of two modes: standby mode and imaging mode. The detector photodiode is capable of outputting a periodic output signal to the control unit, particularly during exposure and when imaging with the photodiodes. The periodic output signal has a value which is representative for the instantaneous value of the obtained energy. The control unit uses that periodic output signal to analyse energy obtained during the imaging process.
EFFECT: monitoring the amount of energy received by a sensor during imaging.
