SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication systems. The invention discloses a method and a system for identifying cell clusters within a coordinated multipoint wireless transmitting network. The network includes a full number of cells served by corresponding base stations. A base station controller divides the whole cell network into cell clusters and sends information on said clusterisation to all mobile devices. A suitable cell cluster is a subset of the full number of cells within the network. The mobile device then transmits to the base station controller a preferable cell cluster identifier selected from a suitable cell cluster. The base station controller selects at least one base station situated within the preferable cell cluster to establish communication with said mobile device. A wireless connection is then set up between the selected at least one base station and the mobile device.

EFFECT: simpler dispatching while optimising throughput and performance.
