FIELD: physics, optics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a device and a method of controlling display of a liquid crystal display. The result is achieved due to that a unit (21) for calculating backlight luminance determines backlight luminance based on an image signal for the displayed image. A subtraction unit (142) determines the difference between backlight luminance from the unit (21) for calculating backlight luminance and backlight luminance from a summation unit (141). A multiplier unit (143) multiplies the found difference by a cyclic coefficient which denotes the contribution of the difference into the backlight luminance correction to obtain a correction value. The summation unit (141) sums the correction value with the backlight luminance to correct backlight luminance. Furthermore, from the image signal and the backlight luminance, a division unit (124) calculates the degree of transmission of light into the liquid crystal panel, which displays the image by transmitting light from the backlight.

EFFECT: reduced deterioration of image quality.
