FIELD: construction.
SUBSTANCE: method to compact ballast of the rail track by means of forced introduction into a medium and withdrawal of a tool from it. The tool is at least one rod designed to compact the medium installed as capable of rotation around its longitudinal axis and/or around the axis of parallel or non-parallel longitudinal axis of the rod. The working part of the rod has sections with ledges on the side surface and/or is bent in the shape different from the helical line, and rotation of the rod is done unidirectionally and/or with change of the rotation direction. The shape of the rod cross section in the working part may be a circle, and/or an oval, and/or a polygon. The surface of the rod and/or the surface of its ledges is additionally equipped with corrugations made of wear-resistant material. The tool is equipped with at least one ramming plate fixed rigidly or as capable of displacement above the working part of the tool. As the tool interacts with the compacted medium, gas and/or liquid and/or gas-liquid mixture is injected into it under pressure.
EFFECT: invention achieves improved quality of compaction and increased volume of compacted medium per one cycle of tool operation.
