FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates, first of all, to erosion resistance of the surface of parts and units in shipbuilding. Rapid diagnostics method for the materials surface layer involves exposing of the material surface to the impact of cavitating jet of water and ice particles mixture under the pressure of at least 50 Mpa with the velocity of 100-850 m/s and then assessing the results of such impact. The time period of the water jet impact is defined empirically in the range 10-60 s basing on the physical and mechanical characteristics of the material and the thickness of the tested sample. The number of the ice particles in a water jet can vary widely due to the increase or decrease of the liquid nitrogen flow supplied to the mixing chamber.
EFFECT: expanded process functionality of jet impact on a unit and its usage for diagnostics of materials and parts in machine building, aircraft building, ship building and water works of different purposes.
