FIELD: physics; control.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to railway automation, telemechanics and communication. In the method of controlling a rail vehicle, track vacancy is monitored on each block section and code signals on vacancy of the block section are transmitted to the track circuit. The transmitted signals include numerical values which rise monotonously in the direction opposite the established direction of movement, starting from the boundary of the receiving station with the haul of the approaching train. The number of block sections to the occupied block section is counted and then used to determine the distance to the occupied block section. The system which realises the method includes a unit for setting the direction and route on the corresponding railway haul and on the number of electrical track circuits and units for generating numerical identification values.
EFFECT: high reliability and accuracy of determining the position of a rail vehicle.
