FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed insert has chip breaker groove made inside relative to angular cutting edges and ledge. Said ledge has top surface, front prominent surface and lateral prominent surfaces. Top surface intersects with front prominent surface and every lateral prominent surface. First intersection section whereat front prominent surface and top surface intersect extend linearly. Second intersection section whereat every lateral prominent surface and top surface intersect extends from appropriate one of opposed surfaces of the first intersection section so that the distance from appropriate lateral cutting edge increases gradually as the distance from angular cutting edge increases. Front prominent surface and lateral prominent surface are curved with convexity directed outward.
EFFECT: stable cutting, decreased resistance to cutting.
