FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method includes processing 1-(4-nitrophenyl)ethylnitrate with nucleophilic reagent in solution. As nucleophilic reagent used are ankoxides of alkali metals in solution in absolute organic solvent. Solution of nucleophilic reagent is added to solution of 1-(4-nitrophenyl)ethylnitrate in organic solvent for 10-20 min, after addition reaction is carried out without application of cooling for 5 min. After that, reaction mass is neutralised with acetic acid to pH=7 and by product - alkali metal nitrite is isolated in pure form. Target product is isolated, regenerating solvent by its distillation. Residue is diluted with water, and 4-nitroacetophenone is separated, without operation of forced evaporation of obtained after its separation mother liquor.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to considerably reduce time of synthesis and obtain 4-nitroacetophenone with high output.
