FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 4-nitrostyrene from 2-(4-nitrophenyl)ethylnitrate, involving treating the latter with an alkali metal alkoxide in the medium of an anhydrous solvent, holding the reaction mass while stirring, decomposition of excess alkali metal alkoxide with an acid and then extracting the reaction products: extracting an alkali metal salt, extracting 4-nitrostyrene, characterised by that treatment is carried out in homogeneous conditions at temperature 18-25°C for 20-25 minutes, the reaction mass is held for 5-25 minutes, excess alkali metal alkoxide is decomposed using a mineral acid; after extracting the basic amount of alkali metal nitrate MNO3 and removing the solvent from the reaction mass, the residue is mixed with diethyl ether, residues of MNO3 and the salt obtained from the mineral acid are quantitatively extracted; after removing the solvent in a vacuum while heating, spectrally and optically pure 4-nitrostyrene is obtained with 100% output.
EFFECT: high output of 4-nitrostyrene, high purity of the obtained product, shorter reaction time.
