FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to medicine and can be used for spinal deformity correction. The spinal deformity correction device comprises a spinal extension mechanism incorporating two bone-fixing elements; each element is configured to be attached to the spinal bones; what is also provided is a coupling mechanism for coupling the two bone-fixing elements; the coupling mechanism comprises the first male element and the first female element for coupling to at least one of the above bone-fixing elements; the device comprises a rotational mechanism facilitating a relative rotation of the two bone-fixing elements about a common axis. The rotational mechanism comprises a ratchet mechanism such that the two bone-fixing elements can rotate about the common axis substantially in the opposite direction substantially by facilitating only front edges of plates of substantially adjacent spinal bones approaching each other or moving apart. A method for surgical correction of spinal deformities involves mounting the device and rotating two adjacent spinal bones so that to facilitate the front edges of plates of substantially adjacent spinal bones approaching each other or moving apart.
EFFECT: group of inventions enables gradual deformity correction by routine spinal motions.
