METHOD OF TRANSVENOUS TRANSSEPTAL ACCESS TO HEAD AND NECK ARTERIES Russian patent published in 2014 - IPC A61M25/00 

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: puncture of the femoral vein is performed, a 8F-90 cm introducer, which is passed through the inferior vena cava into the right atrium of the heart, is installed. After that, puncture of the interatrial septum is performed under control of transesophageal ultrasound examination and the introducer is moved into the left atrium. Then, a guide-catheter 6F, 7F or 8F is passed on a 0.35" hydrophilic guide successively into the left ventricle and into the ascending part of the aorta to the arch of the aorta; catheterisation of the carotid or the vertebral artery is performed depending on localisation and the side of affection, and after installation of the guide catheter into the stable position manipulations on the neck and cerebral arteries are performed. In a particular case in case of presence of the open oval window in the interatrial septum, the introducer is passed into the left atrium through the existing defect of the septum.

EFFECT: method makes it possible to realise an access to the neck and head arteries in case of injuries of the aorta and arteries of extremities, preventing realisation of the femoral or radial accesses.
