FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to X-ray engineering. The X-ray tube (1) has a cathode (3), an anode (5) and an additional electrode (7). The additional electrode (7) is made such that, after collision with free electrodes (27) from the anode (5), the additional electrode (7) is negatively charged to an electric potential lying between the potential level of the cathode and the potential level of the anode. The additional electrode (7) can be passive, i.e. is substantially electrically insulated and is not connected to an active external voltage source. The additional electrode (7) can operate as an ion pump by removing ions from the primary electron beam (21) and also by eliminating residual gas atoms in the housing (11) of the X-ray tube (1). To further increase the capacity of the additional electrode (7) to pump ions, a magnetic field generator (61) can be mounted in the vicinity of the additional electrode (7).
EFFECT: improved focusing characteristics.
