FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. The method comprises steps of: generating image content independently for each positron-electron annihilation event of a plurality of positron-electron annihilation events of the PET imaging data set based on time-of-flight (TOF) localisation to form a generated image (34) comprising an accumulation of the independently generated image content; delineating a spatial contour (56) of an image of the subject in the PET imaging data set (30) based on the generated image; wherein the generation and delineation operations are carried out by a digital processor (18).
EFFECT: providing fast generation of preliminary images for monitoring or scheduling collection of clinical PET images.
