SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication engineering and can be used to control dynamic variation of dimensions in data transport networks without interrupting transmission. A network connection comprises M component intervals defined in the payload region of a higher-order transport circuit of a data transport network, and the method comprises steps of receiving a connection dimension variation control signal in each route node of the network connection; adding in each route node of the connection network, in response to the connection dimension variation control signal, to a first set of M component intervals, a second set of N component intervals such that the network connection comprises M+N component intervals; and increasing the data transport speed after obtaining M+N component intervals in each route node of the network connection for the network connection.
