FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. Slab 1 is subjected to two-step forming at different temperatures at hot rolling mill 2. Slab 1 is cooled between two said forming steps. To prevent premature ferrite formation at hot rolling, lateral end zones 3, 4 of said slab 1 are cooled at lower intensity then slab mid zone 5. Proposed mill comprises roughing stand, at least two hot rolling stands, and at least one slab cooling station 17 arranged there between. Cooling station 17 allows changing the slab cooling intensity over its width. Cooling means are composed of cooling beam 12 with coolant atomisers to force said coolant 6 to slab 1. Two atomisers of cooling beam 12 are arranged to displace horizontally across rolling axis W to allow particle closure of atomisers and to allow partial escape of coolant jet from cooling beam 12.
