FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of monocrystal growing and can be used in laser instrument making, in particular, for manufacturing active elements of tuneable lasers of a mid-infrared (IR) range, which are mainly applied in medicine, spectroscopy, as well as in environmental control. Material for active elements of the tuneable lasers based on chromium-doped zinc selenide additionally contains magnesium admixture in a concentration of 0.13<x<0.6 and forms a solid substitution solution Zn1-xMgxSe:Cr2+. The material is characterised by high values of a forbidden zone width ΔEg=(2,85-3,15) eV. The maximum of ZnMgSe:Cr2+ luminescence band is observed at a wavelength of 2.480-2.485 mcm.
