FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the application of wear-resistant coatings on a cutting instrument and can be applied in metalwork. Vacuum-plasma application of a wear-resistant coating from nitride or carbonitride of titanium, aluminium, silicon, molybdenum and iron with their content in wt %: titanium 66.35, aluminium 10.26, silicon 0.97, molybdenum 21.18, iron 1.24 is performed. Application of the coating is realised by three cathodes horizontally located in one plane. The first cathode is made from a silicon and titanium alloy, the second - from titanium and aluminium alloy and placed opposite the first one, and the third is produced composite from molybdenum and iron and is placed between them.
EFFECT: increased serviceability of the cutting instrument.
