FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Vacuum-plasma application of wear-resistant coating of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, aluminium, silicon, chromium and molybdenum at their ratio, wt. %: titanium 57.41, aluminium 9.52, silicon 0.89, chromium 28.12, molybdenum 4.06. Coating is applied by horizontally arranged in one plane three cathodes, the first of which is made from an alloy of titanium and silicon, the second one is made from titanium and aluminium alloy and is located opposite to the first one, and the third one is made as composite of chromium and molybdenum and placed between them.
EFFECT: increased functionality of cutting tool.
