FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to an electrowetting device (200) based on a dielectric. The electrowetting device comprises one or more cells, at that each cell comprises an electrowetting composition of the first and second immiscible fluids. At that the first fluid represents an electrolytic solution (240). The device also comprises the first electrode (230) separated from the electrowetting composition by a dielectric (231), a voltage source (260) to apply the working voltage difference between the first electrode (230) and the electrolytic solution for the operation of the electrowetting device. At that the first electrode (230) of the dielectric-based electrowetting device (200) comprises a valve metal and the electrolytic solution (240) is capable to anodise the valve metal with the formation of metal oxide at the working voltage difference.
EFFECT: improved reliability of the electrowetting device (200).
