FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building and may be used for cutting of metals. This insert has multiple cutting sections made at intersection of every end surface and peripheral surface. Every cutting section has first cutting edge to act as the major cutting edge and second cutting edge. If seen from end surface, every end surface has alternating first and second vertices with different internal angles. Internal angle of the first vertex is smaller than that of second vertex. Every first cutting edge has the section approximating to median plane as it moves from appropriate first vertex. First section of lateral surface extending over peripheral surface from every first cutting edge makes the insert inner obtuse angle with the plane extending through the first cutting edge and parallel with median plane. Second section of lateral surface extending over peripheral surface from every second cutting edge makes the inner acute angle with the plane extending from the second cutting edge and parallel with median plane.
EFFECT: increased depth of cutting.
