FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical, petrochemical and chemical-metallurgical industry, as well as in aircraft engineering for making structural materials subjected to aggressive media and mechanical loads. A workpiece is made from porous graphitised carbon material and a slurry coating based on a composition of a siliconising agent and a temporary binder is formed on said workpiece. The siliconising agent used is silicon nitride powder and the temporary binder on the entire thickness or at least in the outer layer of the slurry coating is liquid glass or organosilicon siloxane binder. Siliconising is then carried out by heating the workpiece in a vacuum to 1800°C, holding for 1-2 hours at 1800-1850°C and cooling. When siliconising in saturated silicon vapour, pressure in the reactor is not higher than 35 mm Hg and the rate of heating in the interval 1350-1650°C is at least 300-350 deg/h. When siliconising in non-saturated silicon vapour, a layer of a slurry coating based on silicon powder or liquid glass or organosilicon siloxane binder is additionally formed on top of the formed slurry coating.

EFFECT: simple method of making large-size articles from carbon-carbon composite material, providing high purity of surfaces thereof and high strength.
