FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: silicate glass containing ions and molecular ions of silver, is locally irradiated with femtosecond infrared laser pulses with wavelength of 0.8-1.1 mcm. The irradiated area of the glass then acquires luminescent properties when luminescence is excited by radiation with wavelength of 350-410 nm.
EFFECT: high rate of recording optical information in glass and simple composition of the glass.
