FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optics and photonics and can be used to record and long-term, archival, optical information storage in higher-order codes, for example in octal or hexadecimal system of notations. In the claimed method of recording optical information in a photothermorefractive glass containing silver, cerium and antimony ions consisting of local exposure to glass by laser pulses and subsequent heat treatment of glass at a temperature above the glass transition temperature, to write the codes of numbers, laser radiation of ultraviolet range of nanosecond duration with a constant energy density of laser radiation is used, for example 0.3–0.8 J/cm2, but with a different number of laser pulses, for example 1–16 pulses, and after heat treatment, the glass portion with the recorded information is irradiated with continuous ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength of 300–315 nm for 10–20 minutes, after irradiation with continuous ultraviolet radiation, the glass is heat treated at a temperature of 350–400 °C for 1 hour.
EFFECT: reducing the minimum geometric size of the recorded information bit, increasing the density of information recording by using multilevel information recording, as well as increasing the contrast when reading information.
