FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to a method for producing 2,3-disubstituted-5-methoxymethylpyridine of formula , wherein Z means H or halogen; Z1 means H, halogen, CN or NO2; Y2 means OM, and M means an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal involving the stages: (i) reaction of a combination of formula , wherein Q means a tertiary aliphatic or cyclic, saturated, partially unsaturated or aromatic amine; Z means H or halogen; Z1 means H, halogen, CN or NO2; each Y1 and Y2 independently means OR1, NR1R2, or when taken together Y1Y2 means -O-, -S- or -NR3-; each R1 and R2 independently means H, C1-C4 alkyl optionally substituted by C1-C4 alkoxy group or phenyl optionally substituted by one to three C1-C4 alkyl groups, C1-C4 alkoxy groups or halogen atoms, or a phenyl optionally substituted by one to three C1-C4 alkyl groups, C1-C4 alkoxy groups or halogen atoms; R3 means H or C1-C4 alkyl in a mixture of methanol/H2O containing at least 20 wt % H2O (at the total amount of water and bromide (II)) with a base containing MOCH3 and/or MOH, wherein M means an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal under a pressure in a closed container at 75 to 110°C.

EFFECT: compounds of formula (I) are the intermediate compounds applicable in the synthesis of herbicide imidazolines, such as imazamox.
