SUBSTANCE: invention refers to a method for producing 2,3-disubstituted-5-methoxymethylpyridine of formula , wherein Z means H or halogen; Z¹ means H, halogen, CN or NO₂; Y² means OM, and M means an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal involving the stages: (i) reaction of a combination of formula , wherein Q means a tertiary aliphatic or cyclic, saturated, partially unsaturated or aromatic amine; Z means H or halogen; Z¹ means H, halogen, CN or NO₂; each Y¹ and Y² independently means OR¹, NR¹R², or when taken together Y¹Y² means -O-, -S- or -NR³-; each R¹ and R² independently means H, C₁-C₄ alkyl optionally substituted by C₁-C₄ alkoxy group or phenyl optionally substituted by one to three C₁-C₄ alkyl groups, C₁-C₄ alkoxy groups or halogen atoms, or a phenyl optionally substituted by one to three C₁-C₄ alkyl groups, C₁-C₄ alkoxy groups or halogen atoms; R³ means H or C₁-C₄ alkyl in a mixture of methanol/H₂O containing at least 20 wt % H₂O (at the total amount of water and bromide (II)) with a base containing MOCH₃ and/or MOH, wherein M means an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal under a pressure in a closed container at 75 to 110°C.

EFFECT: compounds of formula (I) are the intermediate compounds applicable in the synthesis of herbicide imidazolines, such as imazamox.
