FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: anode made of silver or silver alloys and a metal cathode are immersed in an electrolytic bath and voltage of 280-370 V is applied across said electrodes with anode current density of 0.4-0.8 A/cm2 and temperature of the aqueous electrolyte solution of 20-40°C. The electrolyte used is an aqueous solution containing ammonium chloride, ammonium citrate and tartaric acid, with the following ratio of components, wt %: ammonium chloride 3-10; ammonium citrate 2-6; tartaric acid 1-3; water - the balance.
EFFECT: polishing a silver or silver-containing component - anode and obtaining silver oxide on the cathode surface.
