FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the study of material strength and may be used for testing the abrasive wear resistance and/or the impact resistance of superhard components. A test cylinder comprises the first end, the second end and a sidewall extending from the first end to the second end. At least one of the cylinder elements is an exposed part, wherein the exposed part comes in contact with a superhard component to facilitate the determination of at least one characteristic of the superhard component. The exposed part is fabricated using at least one synthetic material, which can be described by at least one of the following characteristics: unconfined compressive strength of 15 kpsi to ca. 25 kpsi, abrasiveness ranging from 1 Cerchar to ca. 6 Cerchar and an iron content ranging from 5% to ca. 10%.
EFFECT: improved superhard material test efficiency, particularly PDC-cutters.
