METHOD OF DETECTING LINEAR NON-UNIFORMITIES IN OPAQUE MEDIA Russian patent published in 2015 - IPC G01S13/89

FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: analysed object is illuminated with a plane-polarised radio wave and for each elementary area on the surface of the analysed object, measurements are taken, wherein the turning angle of the polarisation plane of the incident wave to the X axis assumes values φ=180°·i/n, where i=0,…, n-1, n is the number of measurements. If the analysed area contains a linear non-uniformity, parameters of the reflected wave depend on the angle φ, which enables to detect presence of the non-uniformity in the region corresponding to said area. The method can be carried out with an apparatus which includes a linearly polarised microwave radiation generator, a reflecting polarisation grating, an analogue-to-digital converter and a measurement result processing and control method.

EFFECT: determining the exact shape of linear non-uniformities and high reliability of detection thereof in the presence of interfering factors.
