FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: thread strengthening method involves formation of a laser spot at the bottom of a thread groove in its centre and movement of the laser beam in relation to the longitudinal axis at simultaneous rotation of an item, the value of the laser beam movement is equal to the value of the thread pitch per one revolution, the laser spot is formed at specific density of radiant energy of a gas laser operated in continuous mode equal to 12-20 Wt/cm2, and the laser spot diameter is chosen as per the proportion d=(1.2-1.7)s, where d - laser spot diameter, s - thread pitch.
EFFECT: increased thread strength and productivity.
