FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method includes thermal acid decomposition of a plant sample, multifold dilution of the sample to ammonium nitrogen content of not more than 1000 mg/dm3 and performing analysis by capillary electrophoresis in a quartz capillary with effective length of 0.5 m and inner diameter of 75 mcm to obtain an electrophoregram, wherein total nitrogen is determined from the content of ammonium nitrogen and residual content of nitrate and nitrite ions, wherein ammonium nitrogen is determined using an aqueous main electrolyte containing benzimidazole, 18-crown-ether-6 and sodium sulphate with voltage on the capillary of +12 kV and detection wavelength of 254 nm, and determination of residual content of nitrate and nitrite ions by capillary electrophoresis is carried out using an aqueous main electrolyte containing potassium chromate, urotropin and Trilon B, with voltage on the capillary of -14 kV and detection wavelength of 254 nm.
