FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of attaching labels to the surface of an article. A label has a bearing layer and a binding layer, wherein the binding layer contains an acrylic adhesive or a polyurethane adhesive. The method includes a step of heating the binding layer with infrared light, where said infrared light has a spectral peak and maximum spectral flux density is found at peak wavelength of said spectral peak. The binding layer has an absorbing spectral range which spectrally coincides with said peak wavelength such that said spectral range spectrally overlaps at least 50% of the full width at half the maximum peak of the radiation spectrum. The absorbing spectral range is found at wavelengths greater than or equal to 3 mcm.
