FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to protection of silver and silver alloy surfaces. First, processed surface is preliminarily cleaned with organic solvents, after which cleaned surface is submerged into acid solution with formation of thin layer of silver oxide and oxidised surface is submerged into solution of at least one thiol of formula CH3(CH2)nSH, where n is from 10 to 16, and molecules of said thiol chemically react with earlier oxidised surface of silver in medium, containing water vapour, at temperature not lower than 50°C for not less than 10 minutes.
EFFECT: invention provides long-lasting protection of silver and silver alloy surface from tarnishing.
