SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparation of ice covers on crossings, grounds, skating-rinks, etc. An ice cover freezing method involves water sprinkling of a granulated ice layer for freeze-up of a framework; granules of the layer have an oval and spherical shape; after the framework is frozen up, intergranular space of the layers is filled with water. Sprinkling water has the temperature of 0-0.5°C in the amount of 0.1-5 dmі per 1 cm of the layer height with the surface area of 1 cm², and framework filling water has the temperature of 0.1-0.5°C and rate of rise which is lower than 0.4 m/s.

EFFECT: use of the invention allows preventing formation of air hollows in the layer and speeding up the time for its freezing.
