FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the sphere of electrical engineering and can be used in an electronic beam generator. The device comprises a housing (12) that limits a vacuumised space (13) and has an opening for the electronic beam output; an inlet (16) for working gas supply to the vacuumised space (13); a plate cathode (14) and an anode (15), which are placed in the vacuumised space (13), and a glow-discharge plasma may be generated between them by the applied electric voltage, at that ions from the glow-discharge plasma may be accelerated at the surface of the cathode (14). The technical result is reached due to the fact that the cathode has the first part (14a) of the first material, which forms the first central area at the cathode (14) surface and the second part (14b) of the second material, which forms the second area at the cathode (14) surface covering the first area of the cathode (14) surface. At the impact of accelerated ions the first material may be heated up to the temperature at which electrons leave the first material mainly due to thermionic emission.
EFFECT: generation of a narrow electronic beam with a low focused diameter and high power density at a simple design and configuration of the device.
